Keep yourself hydrate before, during and after exercise

If you do not drink enough water, you dehydrate. Dehydration can lead to a decrease in physical activity performance and may adversely affect your health. Remember it is important to drink water before, during, and after exercise.

 

Water is essential to maintain blood volume, regulate body temperature and allow muscle contractions to take place. During exercise, the main way the body maintains optimal body temperature is by sweating. Heat is removed from the body when beads of sweat on the skin evaporate, resulting in a loss of body fluid.

 

If you're going to be exercising for more than 60 minutes, a swig of water probably won't cut it. That's because your body loses sodium and potassium as well as water. This can lead to issues like confusion, muscle cramps and even water intoxication (too much water and not enough sodium in the body).

Losing a few pounds of body weight after exercise can put strain on the body and result in uncomfortable side effects like muscle cramps, dizziness, and fatigue. To prevent sweating away the water that keeps us hydrated, have a water bottle at the ready.
